Turning back time on Albany Town Hall
For more than 130 years Albany Town Hall has stood tall within the heart of the City, an icon for locals and visitors.
By playing Lotterywest games, you've helped provide a $1.6 million grant to revamp the heritage building, seeing it become a world-class culture and artistic hub. The renovations will be key for Albany to secure its place as a precinct for culture within regional WA.
“The Town Hall has an incredibly rich history and is a very important building to Albany and the State, but it is underutilised and urgently needs attention,” Mayor Dennis Wellington said.
“It’s our vision to give the Town Hall a new lease of life.”
Added to the State Register of Heritage Places in 1996, the last renovations to the Town Hall were in 1983 and this latest project will return the building to its former glory of 1888. Lotterywest’s grant will also support The Alison Hartman Gardens, an important cultural site for Aboriginal heritage. The garden will include stories from the region, a public amphitheatre, seating areas and art showcasing the region’s botanical diversity.
Once it’s upgraded, the Hall will be open year round and provide a space for small community events, performances and exhibitions.
