Flying the rainbow flag with Pride

30 years ago, three hundred people took to the steps of the Western Australian Parliament demonstrating their support to decriminalise homosexuality; this led to the creation of Pride WA.

The grant will help bring Pride events to life around the state, with community performances and art events culminating in the annual Perth Pride parade, where over 60,000 people are expected to attend!

1990 saw the first Pride Parade in Perth, since then Pride WA has evolved into WA’s peak LGBTQI+ arts and cultural organisation.

By playing Lotterywest games, you’ve helped Pride celebrate and champion LGBTQI+ rights in Perth with PrideFEST, and throughout WA with regional events planned for Albany, Bunbury, the Whealtbelt, Broome, Port Headland, Kalgoorlie and Mandurah.

For 15 years, Lotterywest has provided grants to support Pride WA events and projects, including $375,000 towards the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Pride Cultural Festival and regional events to celebrate cultural diversity.

The grant will help bring Pride events to life around the state, with community performances and art events culminating in the annual Perth Pride parade, where over 60,000 people are expected to attend!

The 2019 PrideFEST celebrates 30 years of Pride in WA, with the theme “Reflect; love, heroes, community & identity.” Pride WA will encourage people to reflect on how far the movement has come since 1989, how much the organisation has achieved for the LGBTQI+ community, and how much further there is still to go to achieve equality.

In the 2018-19 financial year, almost $282 million was given back to WA communities, thanks to you playing. And this giving spreads out to make an already great state, greater.
